About
A note to my customers
My love of sewing began when I was about six years old. I discovered a vintage Elna Lotus tucked away in the back of my mum’s cupboard and became obsessed. After much begging and pleading, my mum finally agreed to let me use it on the condition that I got some lessons first. Since I was a bit too young for most machine sewing classes, I started with hand embroidery instead. A few months later, I finally got my hands on that machine, and I’ve been in love ever since.
All through primary and high school, I spent my weekends sewing and enrolling into any class we could find. When I was 12, I took a pattern drafting, swimwear, and lingerie course — and that’s when the obsession really kicked in. Learning stretch, corsetry and pattern drafting techniques made me realise that I can make anything if I spend enough time on it.
When the pandemic lockdowns hit in 2020 I wasn’t too keen on online schooling and instead spent my time making bras. Before long, friends started placing orders, and I set up an Instagram to advertise my made to order lingerie.
After high school, I went straight into a fashion diploma at TAFE and started working as a seamstress at BlackMilk Clothing. Working in a full-production clothing factory opened my eyes to the realities of bulk manufacturing — and made me see store-bought clothing in a whole new light.
Later, I joined the Brisbane-based dogstar studio. My time there was incredibly formative. I got to be involved in many different aspects of the business and had the absolute privilege of working closely with Masayo Yasuki. Her values — prioritizing natural fibres, sustainable practices, and creating designs that make women feel their best — left a lasting impact on me. Despite the challenges of running a business and increasingly complicated supply chains, she always stayed true to her ethos, and I carry that inspiration with me every day.
I feel so incredibly lucky that Little Obelia’s has received enough love and support to allow me to take it on full-time. I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who has worked with me, believed in me, and supported this journey — especially my wonderful customers.
I love my job, and I truly wouldn’t be here without you.
With love,
